Konnet TouchEZ Slideout Keypad For iPhone 4 Reviewed
Way back in January I took a look at the TypeTop keyboard for the iPhone 4 and found that the mushy keyboard left something to be desired.
The Konnet TouchEZ is a top-notch, clicky and responsive keyboard which feels far, far better than the TypeTop but unfortunately has some of the same drawbacks.
Most prominently is its use of Bluetooth. Sadly this is an unavoidable requirement for using a keyboard with the iPhone, and means that to get your keyboard up and running quickly when you need to use it, you’re going to have to leave Bluetooth turned on permanently on your iPhone. This is a bit of a battery killer and quite a nuisance.
On the positive side the Konnect TouchEZ has a very satisfying slide-out mechanism, which slides into place with a firm click and feels on par with the quality of any decent keyboard-equipped mobile phone out there. The keyboard clips onto the iPhone with a sturdy plastic case, serving also to protect your phone. The keys have a reassuring tactile feedback, and typing on this keyboard is as comfortable and natural as the best smartphone keyboards I’ve encountered.
If you need a Bluetooth Keyboard for your iPhone for frequent, extensive typing marathons, then I couldn’t recommend this more. But if you’re looking to type the odd text message using it, you’ll be disappointed. To type a simple text, you would have to turn on bluetooth, turn on the TouchEZ keypad and wait for the two to pair. It’s an arduous process which makes the add-on impractical for average iPhone use.
As a case the TouchEZ offers the iPhone 4 some limited protection, but mostly just adds bulk. Your phone will be twice its original thickness with this attached, but if you really need that keyboard then it’s well worth it.
