ODROID Developer Edition Shipping Worldwide At $349
ODROID, aptly named because it is truly odd in appearance, has begin shipping worldwide in the form of a developer edition which includes full source code and schematics along with a handy array of accessories: the debug board, TTA20 to USB Cable, 2 Batteries, a 2GB MicroSD card and an 8GB class 6 SDHC card. That’s a lot of kit for not too much cash, and with the ODROID sporting a highly capable ARM Cortex A8 clocked at 833Mhz and 512mb DDR2 ram to back up we’re sure to see reams of classic platform emulation land upon the platform soon, particularly some portrait mode MAME titles made possible by the ODROID’s bizarre, Wonderswan-esque control scheme.
The ODROID developer edition has no built in memory, so those bundled SD cards are necessary for u-boot/kerenl/Android (the 2GB Micro SD) and user space (the 8GB SD). This is quite an unusual design decision, but means that there’s no built in NAND to wear out, and you can change OS simply by swapping out a Micro SD card.
