Edifier Luna 5 iPod Dock
Edifier have opted to add to the ever growing wealth of iPod-related curious you can strategically place in kitchen to crank out the tuneage whilst you cook… or sit waiting for takeaway.
The Edifier Luna 5 sports a decidedly bold and brave design which could be construed as moon-like, but does appear from the front to look like a small, iPod carrying hot air balloon.
Phil Jones, of Wharfdale and Acoustic Energy fame, is instrumental in the development of attractive and high performance audio products from Edifier. The Luna 5 is no exception, concealing 3 drivers in its peculiar form with a total power output of 55w. Judging by the repeated mentions of iPhone compatibility you can also expect that adequate shielding will be protecting those speakers from picking up unwanted noise from your iPhone.
A handy, but nearing obsolete, FM radio rounds off the unit nicely, filling in that entertainment gap with over-the-air “goodness” that your iPod and iPhone can’t supply on their own.
Luna 5 Features:
- All-in-One audio system for iPod, iPhone and MP3 players.
- Five driver speaker system incorporates unique vibration and resonance control technologies coupled with low frequency porting and mid-range tuned cavities for smoother, cleaner audio.
- Magnetically shielded 5.75-inch woofer, two 2.75-inch midrange drivers and two 2.5-inch tweeters.
- Digital FM radio.
- Top mounted iPod/iPhone dock with universal docking system is compatible with all iPod and iPhone models.
- Aux input allows MP3 players and MP3 enabled cellular phones to be
- connected and played.
- Remote control with full function iPod and iPhone control and navigation.
- Full range 100-240V 50/60Hz “universal†switch-mode power supply.
The unit will retail for £199 at Play.com in February. That’s about the going rate for a decent iPod speaker dock, but it remains to be seen if the Luna 5 actually lives up to its claims of excellence.
