Sony VAIO P Confirmed
The VAIO P series will arrive in Europe for February 2009 and is currently availably for pre-order at a staggering £849 pricing it far, far out of the league of netbooks and making it surely a revival of Sony’s classic PictureBook/Ultraportable range.
As rumoured, and despite a seemingly odd choice the 8″ screen in the VAIO P boasts an absurd 1600*768 screen resolution which is potentially excellent for the prevalent wider-than-widescreen movies, if you can get them onto the device in the first place.
This will be backed up by 2gb RAM, a 1.6Ghz CPU and 128GB of solid state storage, so it doesn’t differ much from cheaper netbooks in this respect.
The VAIO P wisely ditches the space wasting trackpad in favour of a nub which any seasoned notebook user, ex. PictureBook owner or fan of IBM notebooks will be familiar with and most probably even prefer.
The whole unit weighs in at just 640g and can be pre-ordered in Ebony Black or Vulcano [sic] Red.
In a bid to build their XrossMediaBar into everything conceivable Sony have included it alongside Windows Vista, with a dedicated hardware button to start up XrossMediaBar for quick and easy access to the devices core functionality.
To round it off, it’s got built-in 3g and the press release mentioned GPS, but isn’t specific about it being integrated.
