Sennheiser High Quality In-Ear Phones
Now that Sennheiser have finished aggressively stomping their competition into oblivion by producing superb headphone products in almost every category imaginable they are free to try some slightly more ambitious projects.
First out of the door are the IE 6, IE 7, and IE 8, which have no relation to Internet Explorer. IE, here, stands for In-Ear.
The 6, 7 and 8 models start at £119.99 and quickly soar up to £169.99 and £249.99 respectively.
Each set is visually distinct, the IE 6 is the most attractive and is clearly targeted at audiophiles who want a solid set of ‘phones to use with their portable audio player(s) when they’re out and about. The IE 7 leans slightly toward the looks of a professional audio product and might invoke a conflict between the fashionista and the audiophile in you.
The IE 8 looks ruthlessly professional and boasts mechanically adjustable bass tuning by means of a small screw in the side of each ear-piece. This screw, when turned, alters the diameter of the bass porting pipe. The IE 8 in both price, appearance and, most importantly, performance is clearly targeted at enthusiasts who either really, really enjoy their music or want a comfortable, discrete set of ‘phones with a high attenuation of external noise for studio monitoring use. The IE 8 boasts custom tuning
To address comfort and fit issues that can be had with in-ear phones, the IE 8 comes with a total of 12 different ear adaptors which include 4 types in 3 different sizes. The IE 7 cuts this back to 9, and the IE 6 comes with only 6.
Each set comes with a deluxe protective case, a cleaning tool, and a cable clip.
